CLAREMONT— A Claremont man was shot and killed inside his doorway of his home on Old Catawba Road Saturday night, according to officials with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.
Kevin Ray Hefner, 28, was at home around 6 p.m. when 45-year-old Tony Allen Brittain II, of Claremont, stopped by the residence for the “purpose of collecting to an outstanding drug debt,” according to Catawba County Sheriff Capt. Jason Reid. “We are not sure who bought drugs from who, but we are sure he was traveling over there for those purposes.”
A press release from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said there was a knock at the door. Hefner went to answer and was shot once in the chest when he opened the door.
He was dead when EMS arrived on the scene.
Reid could no comment any further as the investigation is ongoing.
Brittain was arrested the next morning and charged in the murder.
Brittain is being held in the Catawba County jail. He has his first day in court on Monday.
