N-C's Shuford Wins Golden Helmet

Newton-Conover’s Cameron Shuford, left, is this week’s recipient of WNNC’s Golden Helmet Award presented by Coca-Cola.

Shuford, pictured with head coach Nick Bazzle, caught three touchdown passes Friday from quarterback Adonis Hewitt in a 48-14 win at home over the Fred T. Foard Tigers. The senior also had an interception in the non-conference win as well.

VOLLEYBALL
East Burke 3, Bunker Hill 0
Bunker Hill lost its conference match Tuesday against the East Burke Cavaliers. The Bears dropped to 2-6 against the Catawba Valley 2-A and 3-9 overall.

The Cavaliers swept the Bears 3-0 at East Burke and won 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21.

Cheyenne Pump led Bunker hill with 10 digs, and Haley Null had three solo blocks and 12 attacks.

Newton-Conover 3, Maiden 1
The Red Devils defeated the Blue Devils in a conference match on Tuesday. Newton-Conover won 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20.

Melanie Annas led Maiden with 15 kills and 13 digs. Go Lo had a team-high 25 digs, and Ibtxhis Khang contributed 43 assists.

Fred T. Foard 3, South Caldwell 0
The Tigers swept the Spartans on Tuesday in a conference match. The Tigers improved to 2-3 in the Northwestern 3-A/4-A and 6-6 overall with the 3-0 win.

The Tigers won the games 25-17, 25-12, 25-17.

Madison Hayes led Foard with six kills.
