September 8, 2010

The YMCA of Catawba Valley Board of Directors unanimously ratified the hiring of Bob Conklin as the association’s president and chief executive officer, succeeding Phil DiCasolo who is retiring after serving 38 years of YMCA professional service.

Conklin is currently serving as the president/CEO of the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County in New York. Accomplishments in his current location include the complete renovation of an 80,000-square-foot facility, improving the image of the YMCA as it was named “Outstanding Organization” in Ulster County, successfully starting a capital campaign that is presently at 70 percent of goal, and chartering a new branch in southern Ulster County.

Previously, Conklin served YMCA Associations in Newport, R.I., Boston, Mass., Greater Providence, R.I., YMCA of Fairfax County, Va., and Central Florida YMCA. Conklin brings a wealth of experience to the YMCA of Catawba Valley, which includes successful annual and capital fundraising, new branch development, initiating community partnerships and collaborations and experience with initiating preschool day care, school age and teen programs.

Conklin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rhode Island and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). He is involved in the YMCA professional organization (AYP) Association of YMCA Professionals and a member of (NAYDO) North American YMCA Development Organization. His past involvement in local communities include: Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, hospital collaboration, youth council chair and Leadership Rhode Island.

His hobbies include biking, running, travel and enjoying all sports.
Conklin and his wife, Colleen, look forward to moving to Catawba County. They have three children.
