Senate confirms Cooper choices for DOT, public safety agency

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Three members of North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper's Cabinet have now been confirmed by the state Senate after strong support in the chamber for department heads overseeing transportation and public safety.
The Senate voted unanimously Thursday for both Transportation Secretary Jim Trogdon and Public Safety Secretary Erik Hooks. Military and Veterans' Affairs chief Larry Hall was confirmed last week.
Cooper is still opposed to the idea of Senate confirmation of his Cabinet and has sued to stop it. Judges have declined to stop the process so far. His Cabinet is being subpoenaed to testify before Senate committees. Trogdon and Hooks answered questions Wednesday.
Hooks was a longtime State Bureau of Investigation agent. Trogdon was once DOT's chief operating officer and is retired two-star general in the North Carolina National Guard.
