The sun was shining and the weather was mild for the final day of voting in Catawba County. Parking lots were nearly empty as a few voters showed up to cast their ballots.
On Saturday, October 31st, the City of Claremont and the Town of Catawba hosted a drive-thru trunk or treat, in which families and community members could remain in their vehicles, but could still participate in Halloween activities.
The City of Newton would like to thank the Monroe North Carolina Electric Division for assisting with power restoration efforts in Newton following Tropical Storm Zeta. With their help, Newton was able to reduce their outage time by six hours.
On Halloween night be prepared to help light up Conover Station with your decorated or carved pumpkin! This will be an outdoor event with Social Distancing in place.

HICKORY– Each year, seasonal influenza is an illness that can cause serious health complications, including death. This year, though, the flu season will look a little different, as we will also have COVID-19 circulating.
Emily Snyder and her aunt, Kathy Snyder, have opened their stores within the same store. Next to Dana’s Fine Jewelry, the women’s stores are called « Some Place Else » and « Re-Gem. »
“They’re split through the middle,” Emily said.
At the age of 47, Malinda Primus’ life was turned upside down when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Primus stated that something did not feel quite right, so she performed a self-exam. Upon finding a lump on her right breast, she made a doctor’s appointment for a mammogram right away.
