After 26 years, Post 48 Athletic Director Roy Waters retires

Heading into the summer of 1989, Hickory Post 48 Commander Hal Bolick was in a bit of a bind.

Searching for someone to run his American Legion baseball program, Bolick turned to Roy Waters, a Mountain View native.

With only three weeks left until the start of Legion season, Waters had to choice to make.

“I had to give (Bolick) an answer,” Waters said. “I told him that I wanted a meeting with the executive board.”

After ironing out the details with its leadership, Waters assumed the athletic direction of Hickory Post 48.

Twenty-six years later, Waters is stepping away from the program he’s spent more than the past quarter century molding.
