Hair donated for cancer survivors gets trashed

Hair donations for cancer survivors got tossed in the trash at a Gastonia business, which is now making a donation to make up for the loss.

Multiple media outlets reported that someone found a box of 100 hair donations in a trash bin behind a Great Clips shop this week. Each bag had a donor form for the group Wigs for Kids.

Wigs for Kids Executive Director Jeffery Paul said he found out about the incident Wednesday.

Great Clips spokesman Paul Omodt says trashing the donations appears to have been an accident. Omodt said someone cleaning the shop threw away the box.

Great Clips did salvage most of the ponytails. But it's making a $5,000 donation to Wigs for Kids to make up for the loss of five ponytails.
