Returning home to his Hickory roots, Wingate University quarterback Kyle Johnson put Saturday's football game against Lenoir-Rhyne into perspective.

"I tried to treat it like any other game," Johnson said. "I tried not to let the outside distractions get to me."

In front of his friends and family, the former Hickory High School standout led the Bulldogs to a 24-14 win at Moretz Stadium, spoiling the Bears' Homecoming game in Hickory.

The loss for LR (4-2, 2-1) snaps a 22-game regular season winning streak in South Atlantic Conference games.

Johnson completed 12-of-18 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns for Wingate (6-1,3-1), and he also ran for 13 times for 98 yards on the ground.
