Lincoln Sheriff’s Detectives Investigating Death of Six Month Old Child

Staff Writer

Lincolnton, NC – Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the Christmas Eve night death of a six month old boy.

Deputies and Lincoln County EMS were dispatched to 1747 Temple Lane, Dallas, NC on December 24, 2015 at 11:45 p.m. after the father of the child, Jerry Allen, called 9-1-1 saying he came home from work to find his six month old son unresponsive, naked and alone on the living room sofa.

Allen also told investigators that he located his wife, Stephanie Amber Tillman, 30, of the same address in bed in a back bedroom of the home with their other two children, ages 3 and 4 in the room. The other children were awake and naked when found.

Lincoln County EMS confirmed that the young child on the sofa was deceased and requested Medical Examiner Bobby Smith come to the scene. Smith told investigators he checked the child and could not find injuries or a cause of death. An autopsy was ordered through the Office of the Medical Examiner and will be performed Monday at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC.

Investigators Detective Dan Snellings and Detective Sgt. Matt Lykins found the home filthy from human and animal waste and garbage. Lincoln County DSS took custody of the children at the scene and later turned the children over to family members for their care and custody.

EMS treated Tillman at the scene for injuries she received two days earlier as the result of an assault and what appeared to be extreme intoxication from prescribed medication. She was then transported to CHS-Lincoln for further treatment. She was released two hours later and arrested by detectives.

Tillman is charged with three misdemeanor counts of Contributing to the Delinquency and Neglect by Parents and three misdemeanor counts of Child Abuse. She remains in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond and is scheduled for a first appearance in Lincoln County District Court on December 28, 2015.

The investigation is ongoing and more criminal charges may be generated pending the results of the autopsy and other forensic test results.

No additional information will be released until the results of the autopsy are received by the Sheriff’s Office and detectives have consulted with the District Attorney’s Office..
