A self-portrait by Maiden High School student, Zong Shia Yang, was recently named the Congressional Art Competition People’s Choice Award.

The project, which took four months is done in mixed media – colored and graphite pencil. Zong calls it “1976.” The year 1976 was when the first wave of Hmong people came to America after the Vietnam War. It received over 200 likes on Congressman Patrick McHenry’s (R, NC-10) Facebook page.
