North Carolina man gets prison time for drug trafficking

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A 30-year-old North Carolina man arrested in a Mississippi traffic stop has been sentenced for travelling in promotion of drug-trafficking activities.

The Sun Herald reports ( Jywaun Davis Williams, of Charlotte, was sentenced to 28 months in prison and fined $5,000 Thursday in U.S. District Court in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Williams admitted he was travelling from South Carolina to Texas. He had a Sig Sauer .380-caliber pistol on the front seat of his sport utility vehicle and $52,593 in cash and 35 grams of marijuana in the back of the SUV.

At the time of his arrest April 7, 2014, on Interstate 10, he was wanted on four counts of trafficking crack cocaine.
