Newton Police have released the names of the drivers involved in a Wednesday afternoon wreck that claimed the life of an 18-year-old man.
Corey Dylan Good, of 8th Street NE in Hickory, was driving south on Northwest Boluevard in his black 2008 Hyundai Tiberon when a grey Dodge Dakota truck traveling north on Northwest Boulevard attempted to make a left turn onto West 15th Street, according to Newton PD.
The truck, driven by Mickey Shane Bunton, age 43 of Oak Tree Lane in Granite Falls, collided head-on with Good’s car at the intersection.
Good’s vehicle was pushed up an embankment and into the parking lot of Mike’s Wholesale Cars.
Good was pronounced dead at the scene. Bunton was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center where he was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuries.
A spare tire from Bunton’s truck became dislodged from the collision and struck the hood and windshield of a third vehicle driven by Courtney Stone of Mill Drive in Catawba. Stone did not receive any injuries.
No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is ongoing. However, several witnesses said Bunton was driving erradically before the wreck occurred.
Newton Police was assisted on the call by Newton Fire Department, Catawba County EMS, Catawba County Emergency Management and Newton-Conover Rescue.
